Dear parents and carers,
As you know your children and young people have a rich curriculum offsite including being on farms, horseriding and
woodlands. This means that there is a risk of ticks especially in woods and long grass.
Basically, a tick bites and then sucks blood. Once full it drops off after a few days. They are hard to get off and the
danger is if they are 'sick' into your blood stream when being played with or attempting to remove. This can cause Lymes
disease.
DONT use tweezers, pull or scratch them. Use a tick remover. Slide it under the tick between your skin and the tick then
twist and continue to twist until it lets go and can be removed.
If in doubt, send child to walk in centre such as Clevedon cottage hospital.
If a small red ring appears around where you/they were bitten after a day or two, medical attention is needed and a
doctors appointment is needed ASAP.
I would like to reassure you that we have not had any children who have been bitten by ticks.
Best wishes
Lis Jolley
